Cleaning with Kids this Summer

June 2, 2021

So, when does cleaning up after the kids end? My mom says it’s when they move out. I know it hasn’t been a typical year for most of you with kids at home. Many of you homeschooled your children all or most of 2020. So, summer vacation isn’t what it used to be. You’ve been cleaning up after the kids the entire year. But even if your kids have been home all year, summer is different. The kids have more free time, which means more time to create messes! Sigh. Here’s how to make cleaning with kids a little more tolerable this summer.

Bringing the Outdoors In

One of the messes that children, large and small, create is bringing the outdoors in. Muddy footprints on floors, grimy fingerprints on window glass, and windows and doors left wide open, letting the dust (and pollen) breeze in. Kids have more time to find ways to dirty your home during summer vacation, and they find the ways. Here are a few of the many BKF products to help you win the battle of cleaning with kids.

Kitchen Messes

From small fry to teens, kids have a tendency to make and leave messes in the kitchen. Spilled OJ that was gulped directly out of the cartoon, a dollop of grape jam that slid off the knife while a PB&J was being made, and food splashed, dropped, spit out, and rubbed into the countertop by food coated little hands.

Then there’s the next level. The teen who thinks they can cook and burns a toasted cheese sandwich into your favorite stainless-steel skillet. And leaves a huge mess all over the stovetop and burner. Double sigh. These products can help when cleaning with kids.

The Bathroom

So, if kids spend more time outdoors, more grime and germs are making it into the bathroom. Kids contaminate sinks, showers, tubs, and toilets. If you think I’m exaggerating, take an inventory of your bathroom right after one of the kids is done.

After you pick up the dirty towel, socks, underwear, T-shirt, and shorts off the floor, inspect the bathroom. Are there stains in the sink, something wet on the floor around the toilet (was it flushed?), and how about the shower or tub? Are there dirty footprints on the shower stall floor? Here are a few BKF products you might find helpful in your quest for a clean bathroom this summer.

The Bedroom

Your best plan for your children’s bedroom, especially for teenagers, might be to do what my mom did when I was a teenager. Shut the door. However, if you’re concerned about dangerous organisms growing in your kids’ bedrooms, which could spread throughout the house, and endanger life on this planet as we know it, then you might want to keep the door open.

Earlier I mentioned kids bringing the outdoors in, but there are a lot of young people, such as my 13-year-old grandson, who spend more time in their room playing games than going outside. And what do they do while playing their games? They make messes, spilled drinks, pieces of food, and dishware pushed under the bed are not uncommon.

Parents could use many of the BKF products shared above in the bedroom, but it might be time for this when cleaning up after the kids!

So, what’s the answer?

You already know the answer. It’s BKF products to the rescue.

Whether it’s your stainless-steel pan with a grilled cheese sandwich burned into it or your entryway vinyl floor covered with tromped in mud, dead grass, and something that may once have been alive, we have the answer. And it’s not putting the kids up for adoption – yet.
